The Science Faculty will foster a positive and safe environment in which all our students are given the opportunity to learn and understand scientific principles.  We endeavour to enhance the happy school life that Belle Vue Girls' School provides.

Introduction

Welcome to the Science Faculty. We are one of the biggest faculties in school with 11 teachers, two technicians, three Teaching Assistants and one Faculty Administrative Assistant. Our results across all key stages have been improving year on year, which is reflected in the number of students taking Chemistry, Biology and Physics in the 6th form. Many of our students choose science to be their life career and progress to study Optometry, Pharmacy or Clinical Sciences at university. Recently we have also had some students going on to study Dentistry and Medicine or Engineering. Science is a very important subject, so why not come and study it at Belle Vue Girls’ where we guarantee that you will enjoy it and, with a commitment to work and study, also get good results.

Key Stage 3

Our Key Stage 3 is a complete course that attempts to match the National Curriculum, with extra materials to increase relevance and enjoyment. Students have three lessons per week, generally with one teacher.

Students study a wide range of topics - from the smallest cells to space and beyond. There should be something for everyone here! Over the last few years our results have seen a steady improvement. A lot is down to great teaching, revision techniques and exam preparation ... as well as the hard work of our students.

Key Stage 4

Students start their KS4 course in year 9. We proudly offer a great range of courses for our students, which cater for all learning styles and interests.

Separate Sciences is a traditional, highly academic course taught by biology, chemistry and physics specialists. This course is aimed at A*– B students.

Core and Additional Science are taught by biology, chemistry and physics specialists. This course is also a good preparation for science A level so long as students achieve at least two B grades.

BTEC is a hands-on practical course aimed at students who enjoy active learning.

Entry Level Science is aimed at students who enjoy science and like a mixture of practical and more traditional delivery.

This one is very good for KS4 and 5 but students have to register (it is free)

For KS3 this is the one:
