BARNARDO'S BUSINESS INCENTIVE SCHEME

For the second year running, the Business Studies Department are hosting the Business Incentive Scheme as an extra-curricular activity.

This scheme is designed to give students the opportunity to set up and run a business enterprise whilst at the same time helping other young people.  Students gain practical experience in planning, organising, administration, staffing and managing their own project.  This is a chance for students to put their learning into practice, achieve key skills and develop an understanding of Barnardo’s.

Barnardo's is a well known charity. They run over 800 UK projects that transform the lives of more than 200,000 children and young people every year.

Their work includes:

• fostering and adoption services and support

• helping children break free from exploitation

• supporting young car

• helping children living in poverty

Barnardo's loan £120 to support the set up of the Business Incentive Scheme.  Profits are then donated back to the charity to support their work.

This year we have 4 companies – Illuminous, Rivals, Strategy and Xplode.  Girls from years 7 to 13 are involved.  They are aiming to better last year’s net profit figure of £1800.

At present, all companies are busy researching and planning what products and services they will sell.  Once decisions have been made, advertising, promotion, production, selling and accounting will begin.
