Every picture tells a tale...

Please enjoy looking through our archive of some of the interesting activities that were reported on our website here at Belle Vue Girls' Academy.

Belle Vue Girls' School recently won the full International School Award for the fourth time, making this our 10th year of holding this prestigious award.  Junior Ambassador Saleha Asim, and Student Executive member, Alina Bibi travelled to Newcastle on Tuesday 13 October, with Mrs Wilkins, to collect the award.  They watched an impressive display of Indian dancing, and listened to an enthralling talk by guest speaker Dr Niall McCann, about his quest for the Bear Tapir in Venezuela, among other exciting trips!

Belle Vue Girls' School played host to an exclusive afternoon of workshops, master classes and question and answer sessions to students from a number of participating schools in the region eager to pursue a career in broadcasting.  The sessions were designed to give detailed practical lessons and career advice in a range of mass communication media including film, television and moving image, radio, music and performance and 'dj'-ing and presenting. This is a prestigious event provided by the BBC to encourage and attract young people into a busy and thiriving career market.

Internationally celebrated playwright Mike Kenny  joined the company to share in re-imagining Theatre in Education for the 21st Century, re-working ‘Bag Dancing’, an educational presentation classic from the Blah's back catalogue.

'Bag Dancing' toured locally and nationally, mostly to schools, but was also offered to festivals and venues that have a specific remit around engaging young people and applied theatre departments where it is used as a tool for teaching.

The Blah Blah Blah Company had a really strong impact on students and developed a new understanding of community in context.

MOBILE PHONES IN SCHOOLS - BVGA STATEMENT

We have reviewed the impact of personal mobile devices in schools on education, concentration and achievement. The results may not be very surprising and have led to many schools to changing their approach to mobile phones. In the light of so much evidence suggesting that mobile phones have a detrimental effect on learning we have decided to no longer allow them to be used on school grounds. Anyone concerned about contacting their daughter should always use the school main line 01274 492341 to ensure the school is aware of any important information or issues. This link from the Guardian gives a strong message supporting the change.

OPEN EVENING

Our open evening with parents and families of prospective Year 7 students currently at Primary school visited our academy and toured the classrooms and resource areas and met the staff who produced such excellent results. Many of our own students were on hand to guide our visitors and answer questions about the experience of being a BELLE VUE GIRL.

OFFICIAL 2017 RESULTS ARE RELEASED

The Department for Education waits a little while before officially releasing school results to ensure it includes all measures and re-marks accurately. We are delighted to be able to post such EXTREMELY POSITIVE RESULTS (click here to see) when compared with every other school in the country.  It is very pleasing to note that almost all headline measures saw an increase in 2017. In particular, the progress that the girls make between KS2 and the end of year 11 is significantly above the national average. A Progress 8 score of 0.42 is implies that, on average, girls achieve nearly half a grade higher than the national average in every subject they take when compared with students with similar starting points.

THE CHILDREN'S SUITCASE LIBRARY

Some of our students saw the rewards of their kindness and generosity when they were acknowledged in a local newspaper for sending books and friendship letters via the Children Suitcase Library organisation to children of Kitabghar Children's Centre of Yuvsatta at Bapudham Colony in India. The trip was a big success, with the kids loving the books and stationery that the pupils of Belle Vue donated. They will be treasured and will prove invaluble resources as they learn the English language, so important in order to go on to further education or get a good job in India. The kids over there were so excited to recieve the letters and to find out about there peers over here in Bradford. Over the course of 3 days they wrote postcards addressed to the pupils of Belle Vue, and Shade Primary in Todmorden. Some of these postcards are specifically addressed to individual pupils at Belle Vue, but most are addressed to the whole year group who donated the books and wrote the letters.

YOUNG OPEN ART EXHIBITION

The Bradford Young Open Art Exhibition returned to celebrate local young artists aged 16 and under with entries displayed in the city's civic art gallery, Cartright Hall. Special congratulations are due to Tiba Al-Obaidi in Year10 who created a batik, lino print and machine embroidery textile piece exploring her own identity influenced by the tapestries of Grayson Perry which gained 1st prize. 3rd prize went to Amina Ali for a portrait of her brother.

THE NEW GCSEs EXPLAINED

GCSEs changed this year for some subjects and these new grades will be shown not in letters A*-C but by the numbers 1 to 9 (where 9 is the highest grade possible). The Department for Education has released a new GCSE factsheet which is available to download or read by clicking here.
